Anthony Modeste was able to return from the sick bay to photograph Köln to a 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Saturday’s Bundesliga.

Cologne was certain to have missed him when he was gone.

Modeste led the team in a 1-0 victory over Freiburg on February 5, but illness prevented Modeste from playing in the next game against Cologne, which lost 3-1 to Leipzig last weekend.

In the 61st minutes, the French striker arrived against Frankfurt. He scored the winner in 84th.

Modeste scored his 15th goal of this season.

Rafael Santos Borre could have equalized with the final kick of the match, but the Colombian shot was too weak and Timo Horn, Cologne’s goalkeeper, easily took the ball.

Cologne ranks sixth in the Bundesliga.

STUTTGART’S LATE HEARTBREAK

Relegation-threatened Stuttgart was on the verge of claiming its first league win since December when it conceded a penalty in the third minute of injury time to draw 1-1 with Bochum.

Eduard Lowen capitalized on Sebastian Polter’s poor challenge by Mavropanos Konstantinos, scoring the equalizer from the spot. This extended Stuttgart’s miserable run to eight games without a win.

Konstantinos, a Greek defender, is Stuttgart’s top goal scorer with four goals. He was left feeling depressed after the whistle. He was supported by teammates as well as opposing players.

With 11 rounds remaining, Stuttgart is still second from the bottom in a direct promotion place.

Lowen’s late equalizer to promoted Bochum was not enough to stop the “Bayern Munich curse from striking again” – Bochum had defeated the Bavarian powerhouse in its previous game , and like the eight other teams that achieved the feat, it did not follow up with another win.

WOLFSBURG REJECTED

Jonas Wind, a Danish forward, scored Wolfsburg’s first Bundesliga goal but it wasn’t enough. Hoffenheim won 2-1.

Wolfsburg paid 12 million euros ($13.4million) to FC Copenhagen for Wind on Friday of the winter transfer window. The 23-year old scored the goal that was a part of the justification for the fee when he smashed the ball into the far post in the 36th minute from approximately 15 meters (yards).

Wolfsburg was poised to win its third consecutive game after the Volkswagen-backed club snapped an 11-game streak without a victory in any competition. But there was also a Danish player on the field.

Jacob Bruun Larsen, his compatriot in Hoffenheim, equalized the score with a scissors kick at the 74th. Then, he helped to set up Andrej Kramaric as the winner at the 78th.

Union Berlin suffered a 1-0 defeat at Arminia Bielefeld, its third consecutive loss since Max Kruse joined Wolfsburg as an experienced forward.

Freiburg also won 2-1 against Augsburg, which is still in the relegation playoff position.
