Around the year 1960 he opened at the on-site “Nørgaard Paa Strøget”, which – as the name suggests – a store on Strøget in Copenhagen.
Butikslokalerne he bought of his father, Mathias Nørgaard, who also had operated a store. It was called “Sørgemagasinet” and sold clothes and food for funerals and the mourning after.
Some years after butiksåbningen designed Jørgen Nørgaard the first t-shirt at the on-site. The T-shirt was particularly well-known for its classic striped look.

Jørgen Nørgaard leaves his wife, Ellen Nørgaard. Together, the couple has four adult children, including tøjdesigneren Mads Nørgaard.
In the middle of the’80s opened the Mads Nørgaard his own shop on the main street – just as the father had done several decades earlier.
Later that of the father and of the son, stores have been merged, so it is the son’s store, which still is to find on the main street.
Like Jørgen Nørgaard, Mads Nørgaard even designed much of the clothing, which today is sold from his various stores and webstore.
