I am a volunteer. Making a profile on the website, I pointed out that I have no medical training, but I’m willing gratuitously to perform any auxiliary work that does not require medical procedures. It turned out that such a lot of work, and it’s never over until the defeated coronavirus.
Why to volunteer work, I chose the hospital №52? For me, 52 hospital of Moscow – the place where before and after retirement, until 1994 worked in the ICU my mom. Volunteer coordinator, Olga Nikolayeva, after signing the contract, my first going on duty warned about all the dangers that are concentrated in the “red zone”, where I had to help physicians and support staff. I was scared of her, but Olga was not trying to cheer me up.
Initially I was one of 309 volunteers were engaged in entering medical data into a centralized database, a very familiar office work. Only PPE (personal protective equipment) it was difficult: rubber gloves, plastic sealed clothing, respirator, glasses, similar to a diving mask. As new challenges arise, we formed a group “Temperature and saturation” of about 10% of volunteers, I joined this group.
After the second week of volunteer work can objectively describe one of the working days. Helped move after the procedure sedentary patients from gurneys to beds. Fed immobile, the elderly, and cerebral palsy. Transported and escorted discharged patients to booked hospital transport or relatives at the checkpoint of the hospital. Soaps patients (some sedentary, some got on the bed continuously breathing through the tube oxygen mixture). Changed diapers. Washed and hung linen sedentary. Packed and shifted on the rolling of critically ill patients for transfer to the intensive care unit. Received and returned to the intensive care unit of used oxygen cylinders. And, of course, with many patients talked, because some of them (who is in a serious condition) painful and frightening, and those are easier, with nothing to do and want any communication.
For ten hours of work in a hermetically sealed suit, the body produces 1.5-2 liters of sweat that permeates all underwear and continuously flows into gloves and shoes. At this time I don’t eat or drink. Because, first, fear of viruses and second, after a meal I find it hard to work – I want to relax and unwind. Yesterday, as captured by the pedometer, I walked of 13.59 km, 11 of them in the office and between the buildings of the hospital. . Ten days ago, for the same amount of time (10 hours), working primarily on the street were transported to their buildings clean and return of dirty linen, the cleaning of a new dormitory for the doctors, the receipt of parcels from relatives of patients and the delivery of them in case I passed more than 30 km Of protective clothing was only a light robe, hat and mask. Why volunteering should for me personally and why, in my opinion, it is necessary hospital No. 52?
Hospital No. 52 is a great rescue station in the middle of Covind-19. On the front line of saving people from the consequences of defeat Covid-19 medical workers. More than 10% of the patients that I talk to, doctors and workers of medical institutions (apart from Moscow). Physicians are overloaded with technical work on filling database and retrieving it several times a day. Volunteers can take the load, not requiring special knowledge and decision-making. Every hour that a volunteer spends with the use of on duty will allow the doctor or nurse to spend more time actually treating patients.
I’m volunteering as you need oxygen. For me it is the highest degree of freedom to do what I think properly, but that is not my responsibility and does not bring me material gain. I have hundreds of obligations that I fulfill in the family, at work, with friends, in public life. Before the 52 patients of the hospital, I have no obligations, I have the freedom and satisfaction when I do something for them that is necessary to do it.
