The city of Austin will officially recognize August 24 as Meadow Goodman Mental Health Awareness Day in honor of the late 15-year-old local musician. Meadow Goodman, the daughter of local bassist Greg Goodman and founder of KTonic Kombucha, was a talented drummer and student at Anderson High School who tragically lost her battle with mental illness in August 2023.

To commemorate her memory, a benefit show called MeadowFest will be held at Far Out Lounge on the same day. The event, presented by KUTX, will feature performances by Grupo Fantasma, Superfónicos, Como Las Movies with Sabrina Ellis, Nemegata, the Point, Somebody Someone, and School of Rock. District 2 Council Member Vanessa Fuentes will dedicate the date in Meadow’s honor at the event, which will support Out Youth Austin and the SIMS Foundation.

Fuentes expressed her excitement about recognizing Meadow Goodman Mental Health Awareness Day, stating that MeadowFest will combine art, music, and mental health advocacy to create a unique experience that embodies the spirit of Austin. The community is encouraged to come together in support of local artists and mental health organizations at this special event.

Tickets for MeadowFest are currently available for purchase, and the event promises to be a meaningful celebration of Meadow Goodman’s life and legacy. In addition to enjoying live music, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to important causes that support mental health awareness and LGBTQ+ youth in the Austin community.

As we reflect on the significance of Meadow Goodman Mental Health Awareness Day, it serves as a reminder of the importance of destigmatizing mental illness and providing support to those who may be struggling. By coming together to celebrate Meadow’s life through music and advocacy, we can continue to raise awareness and promote mental wellness in our community.
