Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is a fan of Spartak Moscow, answered the question whether the capital’s club can be called a champion, RIA Novosti reports.
” No, Spartak is not a champion, unfortunately,” Lavrov said.
In the first six rounds of the Russian Premier League (RPL), Spartak suffered three defeats and occupies the tenth place in the championship standings. Also, the team lost to the Portuguese Benfica in the Champions League qualification on the sum of two meetings and will now play at the group stage of the Europa League. The Italian “Napoli”, the English “Leicester” and the Polish “Legia”got into the same quartet with the Muscovites.
Earlier, Ilya Gerkus, the junior general director of the Moscow “Locomotive”, said that he would never have gone to work in the capital”Spartak”. Also, the former general manager of the “railwaymen” added that he treats all teams with respect, but there are clubs that are difficult to go to from an ideological point of view.
