A gas explosion occurred in a school in the Finkenwerder district of Hamburg during the night. Parts of the building have collapsed. Fortunately, there are no injuries according to the first stand.
At around 3.40 a.m. there was a gas explosion in the basement of the district school on Norderschulweg in Finkenwerder. Residents reported the loud bang to the fire brigade. As a spokesman for the MOPO fire brigade situation service confirmed, a fire then broke out in the administration wing of the school.
When the rescue workers arrived, the school building was already fully engulfed in flames – however, the fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. According to the fire brigade, there were other small explosions in the basement.
The headmaster’s office was destroyed by the fire, and the teachers’ rooms in the administration wing were badly damaged. The building collapsed in parts. There was no information on a possible cause of the explosion in the morning.
By 8 a.m., the operation was continuing. The fire brigade was on site with several fire engines and a technical assistance train. There were no injured people. The LKA has started the investigation.
