The Supreme Court announced Sunday that Justice Clarence Thomas was admitted to hospital with an infection.
Thomas, 73, was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Friday, after suffering “flu-like” symptoms, the court stated in a statement.
The court did not offer any explanation as to why it took two days for the court to reveal that justice was in hospital.
The report did not provide any additional information about the infection. However, it stated that Thomas is receiving antibiotics and that his symptoms are improving.
The court stated that he could be released within the next few days.
This week, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in four cases. The court stated that Thomas will participate even if he misses arguments.
Thomas has served on the court since 1991.
