A particularly derogatory hate mail on the Internet with a photo of Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) has legal consequences for a man from Upper Bavaria.

In a temporary injunction announced on Friday, the Munich II Regional Court found that he would have to refrain from insulting the Minister of State specifically in the future and, on top of that, would have to bear the costs of the procedure in the amount of 2,500 euros. The decision of June 10 is not yet final.

It is a comment that the man left in February under a three-year-old post on Facebook. In it, according to the court, he published a photo of Roth, which was provided with expressions from the language of the faeces and a sexualized devaluation.

Roth’s lawyer Verena Haisch called the presentation an unprecedented attack on human dignity. “The decision of the Munich Regional Court clearly shows that the Internet is not a legal vacuum and – what is crucial – the enforcement of the law is also successful.”
