The Russian army is coming under increasing pressure in Cherson, southern Ukraine. The attack of the Ukrainians on the city is imminent. An intercepted call from a Russian soldier now gives an insight into how bad things are for the Russian fighters.

Ukraine repeatedly intercepts calls from Russian soldiers home. These often paint a devastating picture of the state of Putin’s troops. In a new phone call, a fighter in the Kherson region gives an insight into how poorly organized the Russians are – and how the Ukrainians are taking advantage of it.

“It’s like a madhouse. We have no one to guide us. When I advance with the tank, I don’t know who is in front of me. I may just roll over our own infantrymen in the trenches. And at the same time I’m afraid that our own bullets will hit me from behind.”

The infantry had been severely decimated – partly by their own drones. “We had 600 infantrymen here. There are 60 left, maybe only 50.” There are dead bodies and wounded everywhere. And sometimes there would be no way to recover them.

The enlightenment of the Ukrainians is good. They sent out drones to find the enemy. And a short time later the artillery shells would come. “Right on target.” The Russian troops, on the other hand, would get the coordinates of enemy positions from the tank drivers and would then “shoot three kilometers wide”. Or they meet their own people.

It’s just as bad with grenade launchers. “They shoot with it and then we hear our comrades shouting from the front: ‘Why are you shooting at us from behind?’ They shoot at their own infantry. Can you believe that?” And while the comrades were screaming, the Ukrainians would just attack the same positions.

The trenches are “mass graves,” said the soldier. His interlocutor says that Russian TV says that everything is going well and that there are at most minor setbacks. The fighter replies: “The Russians are retreating.”
