Inter Milan continued its miserable month against AC Milan, its city rival in the Italian Cup semifinals on Tuesday.
Since February, Inter has only won one match in seven of all competitions. This run saw Inter, the defending Serie A champion, lose 2-0 at Liverpool in the Champions League matchup.
Inter also failed to score in this match for the fourth consecutive match. The Nerazzurri are now at the end of 400 minutes without scoring.
Simone Inzaghi, Inter coach, said that “We’ve had many games and we need rediscovering our spark but it’s something we’re working towards.” “We still have the strongest attack. Although four matches without scoring is a headline-grabbing feat, we will soon score again.
“It’s only natural that we should slow down a little now. In November, December, and January we were at full speed. We aren’t playing as well as before… We’re trying our best to recover both our mental and physical strength.”
Both teams had their chances at San Siro. However, neither goalkeeper was particularly troubled. Inter’s Samir Holdanovic had to make a save in the second half to stop a Rafael Leao curler.
Milan has not won the cup for nearly 20 years — since 2003 — while Inter is still without a win since its last seven titles in 2011.
Milan and Inter drew 1-1 in their first Serie A Derby in November. Olivier Giroud scored two goals when Milan defeated Inter 2-1 three week ago in the league.
Fiorentina hosts Juventus, the defending champion, in the first leg for the other semifinal on Wednesday.
The second-leg matches will be played on April 20. The final will be May 11.
