Ukraine intends to transfer to a four-year implementation period of the project "Wall" on the construction of buildings on the border with Russia and to complete construction by 2025, said a public organization StateWatch, citing the State border service.
In 2015 the Ukrainian government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk approved the action plan for the implementation of the project "Wall", which provided for the construction of powerful fortifications on the border with Russia. The project was designed for four years and had to manage the budget of 4.1 billion hryvnia (about us $ 150 million). Subsequently, however, the funding for 2015 and 2016 were cut by more than half.
"According to the information received, the public organization StateWatch from the State border service, the implementation of the project "Wall" plan to move for another 4 years and to be completed till 2025", – stated in the message.
It is noted that the necessity of extending the implementation of the project has arisen in connection with the funding cuts and the rising cost of construction materials, works and services.
Earlier, the National anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine said that on suspicion of embezzlement of state funds allocated for the project "Wall" detained seven people, including employees of the frontier service and representatives of the enterprises-contractors. Later the court decision was all detainees the measure of restraint in form of detention with the possibility of additional cash collateral.
