In Tver with the building of the former offices of the NKVD took two tablets. One of one of the plates was written: “In memory of the martyred. Here in 1930-50-ies was the NKVD-MGB in Kalinin region and inside the prison.” The second – “to the Memory of the poles from the camps of Ostashkov murdered by the NKVD in Kalinin – for the sake of warning the world.”
Signs that hung almost thirty years, took not the vandals, and the guardians of the law. So decided the Prosecutor of the Central area of the city.
the Black Board on which two arms framed by a heart. Wrists tied with barbed wire and stretch in supplication to the heavens – to the Cross.
This plate – the call from the recent past to us. A symbol of remembrance of those killed in the years of repression. The building on which facade it hung, shot people. According to “Memorial”, on March 5, 1940 there was executed more than six thousand Polish POWs (prisoners of Ostashkov camp).
And after the war there shot people, already Soviet citizens. Then they were buried in the village of Copper. It gave the testimony of the former head of the Kalinin NKVD Dmitriy Tokarev.
the Building was long owned by the Medical Academy. But the signs were reminded that when something is not saved and killed people. Not fighting for their lives, as do now Professor of medicine and tortured.
last Summer, local Communists demanded the signs be removed. Reason? Supposedly there was no executions of poles.
And then joined the Prosecutor’s office. And here is her solution: to clean, since there are no documents proving the legality of the installation.
And yet there is a link to an old report from 1995: “Displayed on a plaque the name is not based on documentary evidence associated with the enforcement of the sentence against these persons from the camps of Ostashkov in the building located at the city of Tver, street Soviet, d. 4”. What are these witnesses?
whatever it was, the plate was removed. The deed is done.
In the book of history of mankind many pages terrible. Sometimes shameful. Life leafing through them, but not pulling out. And only narrow-minded people trying to … no, not to pull the sheets (it is not in their power), and erase the recordings.
But it is written with blood letters still show through. Sooner or later. So it is better to fix it ourselves. And, if signs are already broken, then make a new one.
