According to the police, an 81-year-old driver left the road over the weekend and collided head-on with a man’s car. A 78-year-old died in the accident and four other people were injured.
After a head-on collision on the B260 in Schlangenbad (Rheingau-Taunus district), a 78-year-old woman died. Four other people were injured. An 81-year-old driver left the lane on Sunday afternoon and collided head-on with the car of a 46-year-old man from Mainz, the police said. The 81-year-old’s car caught fire after the accident.
First responders managed to get the 81-year-old and his 78-year-old passenger out of the burning car, the fire department said. The woman died at the scene of the accident and the driver suffered serious injuries, police said. The three occupants of the second car were also rescued from their vehicle by first responders.
The 46-year-old and a 20-year-old passenger and a 17-year-old passenger were also seriously injured, according to the police. The fire brigade, however, spoke of three life-threatening and one moderately injured person. The 46-year-old was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
The first responders and the emergency services were looked after by emergency chaplains at the scene of the accident. According to the fire brigade, around 50 emergency services were on site. The road was closed for several hours.
