Today Philip called Konev, one of the main commanders of the Second world war and said that the Czech Communists and other Patriotic forces considered the dismantling of the monument to him arrogant and immoral act, a rewriting of history and a slap in the face to all who died for the sake of victory over Nazism.

On April 9 the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu asked the Minister of defence of the Czech Republic Lubomir Menara to transfer the monument to Konev Russia. The next day, the representative of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Zuzana Stihova said that moving the monument to Konev does not violate any of the existing agreements between Russia and the Czech Republic.
