Members of the archaeological expedition of the Crimean Federal University during the excavations in the territory of the princely Palace in the former capital of the medieval Principality of Theodoro on Mangup plateau found Byzantine medallion X-XII centuries. This was reported by the press service of the University.
Scientists believe that the product is perfectly preserved to our days and thanks to this unique. Presumably this ornament was worn by the Byzantine garrisons or control the territory of the Principality.
On the front side depicts a horse rider, you probably picture someone from the saints or warriors, whose cult was especially popular in the Byzantine Borderlands.

During the expedition, the archaeologists have cleared the road and the area near the main gate to the Fort and found the surface preceding the time of construction of the Palace, various objects of everyday life of the Byzantines and residential areas.
