On Sunday, the coalition leaders met in the Chancellery for a crisis meeting. The dispute over the German nuclear power plants should be settled there. But after a short time, Lindner and Habeck left the Chancellery again – without saying a word.

The dispute over the further use of the remaining German nuclear power plants has been raging in the traffic light government for weeks. At a crisis meeting in the Chancellery, the government leaders wanted to get this dispute out of the way. But obviously nothing will come of it. As ARD journalist Tina Hassel reports, “Lindner and Habeck have just left the Chancellery without a word”. So an agreement still seems a long way off. Theo Koll from ZDF also reports that Habeck and Lindner have already left the meeting.

Because of the energy crisis, Habeck wants to keep two nuclear power plants operational until spring in the event of power supply bottlenecks.

The FDP, on the other hand, is pushing for all three remaining nuclear power plants to continue operating until 2024 – party leader and finance minister Christian Lindner reaffirmed this on Monday. In the course of the nuclear phase-out, it was actually intended that the last German nuclear power plants would be taken off the grid at the end of the year.
