the Mayor of Sochi, Alexey Kopaigorodsky assessed the impact of opening the border with Abkhazia on the flow of tourists to the Russian resort. His words RIA Novosti reports.
According to Kopaigorodsky, the opening of the border with the neighbouring state did not affect the number of tourists. He stressed that the number of tourists in Sochi since the lifting of restrictions is steadily increasing.
“today, every fourth tourist coming to our city, gets a ticket to travel to Abkhazia”, — said the head of Sochi. This year in the Russian resort rested about 1.5 million tourists, he said.
In the city administration also noted that Abkhazia is traditionally in demand among resort guests. Car and pedestrian traffic at the border is increasing daily, said there.
Russia opened the state border with Abkhazia on 1 August, the corresponding order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. As of today, the Russians are free to travel to Abkhazia, and the citizens of this country — in Russia.
