A 20-year-old died after a fight in the Schleswig-Holstein Heath. The young man went to get a security guard to help, but he is said to have hit him in the face with his fist. His mother describes the dramatic scenes in the hospital.

Tragic incident in the Markt-Passage in the Schleswig-Holstein town of Heide, a good 100 kilometers north-west of Hamburg: On May 13, 2022, 20-year-old Justin died in a fight in the shopping center.

The scene that led to his death is described as follows: Justin asked a security guard to intervene. He grabbed the guard on the shoulder, whereupon the 65-year-old is said to have pulled out and hit the young man in the face with his fist. The 20-year-old lost almost all his teeth and hit his head on the ground.

His mother described the events after the incident to the “Bild” newspaper: “He underwent emergency surgery three times. They had to open his skull to take pressure off the brain. But they couldn’t save him. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Her son had just moved into his first apartment and was planning his future on his own. His mother describes Justin as “polite and courteous”. “He was interested in gardening and was in the volunteer fire department as a child.” At the end of May, 100 people held a vigil on the market square in Heide.

The 65-year-old security guard has not been arrested. The Itzehoe public prosecutor’s office is currently investigating for bodily harm resulting in death.
