A member of the friendship group of the state Duma for relations with Parliament of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) Dmitry Sablin commented on reports about the imminent resignation of President Bashar al-Assad. On Friday, may 15, RIA Novosti reported.
In his opinion, the resignation of Assad, saying too much, the rumors are greatly exaggerated. “Assad must go” talk from 2011, he explained. However, the Syrian President currently has control over most of the country, as well as solves the issues of national reconciliation.
Sablin also said that the current Syrian President is very popular in the country. In addition, the MP believes that the head of the SAR will be able to win elections and stay for another term. The politician noted that the country has no alternative to Assad as President.
“moreover, in addition to military victories, we see the incipient recovery of the economy and strengthening the fight against corruption,” he said.
Before may 15, it was reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may soon resign. Signs of such developments in the near future, said representatives of the Syrian opposition. The issue is currently being discussed by member countries in Astana, the process — Russia, Turkey and Iran. Confirm this information is not yet possible, however a number of circumstances indicates that want Assad removed from power.
