The earthquake of a magnitude of 6.4 occurred off the Eastern coast of Japan, according to the US Geological survey (USGS).
The quake was recorded at 20.39 UTC (23.39 GMT). The epicenter was located 33 kilometers South-East of the city of Ofunato, located on the island of Honshu. The focus lies at a depth of 41.7 km.
