Absurd incident in the port city: An S-Bahn arriving at the platform of Hamburg’s main train station had to make an emergency stop. The reason: A 37-year-old man sat down on the tracks and took a break to eat.

A 37-year-old sat down on an S-Bahn platform in Hamburg’s main train station for a lunch break. As the federal police announced on Friday, the driver of an incoming S-Bahn could only prevent an accident by emergency braking. The 37-year-old, who, according to the federal police, apparently ate something on the track, fled after the incident on Thursday across the tracks in the direction of the next train station.

According to the officials, several federal police patrols moved out after the train driver raised the alarm, while rail traffic on the route was immediately stopped. This also applies to long-distance traffic. Emergency services positioned the man between the main station and the Hamburg-Dammtor station, where he was already next to the tracks. The federal police in the Hanseatic city reported that he was “obviously” not aware of the danger of his behavior.

Accordingly, the 37-year-old was temporarily taken into custody, but released after the police measures were completed. He is being investigated for a dangerous intervention in rail traffic. According to the Federal Police, there were considerable disruptions to rail traffic due to the incident.

Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder wants to remain a member of the SPD. Exclusion proceedings against the former chancellor are currently pending at the SPD in Hanover. But he looks at it “with composure,” said Schröder.

The autobahn was closed for several hours after a serious accident that left three dead and many injured. What exactly happened remained unclear in the early morning.
