A demonstration against the Tesla factory in Grünheide is attracting a large police presence until Sunday. On Friday the situation on site appears to have deteriorated.
Activists tried to break into the Tesla factory site in Grünheide on Friday. This has not yet been achieved, a police spokesman said on Friday afternoon. The demonstrators had overcome the first wildlife fences. He described the situation as “dynamic”. One woman has so far been injured in the protests around the factory premises. There are also three injured police officers. According to police, there were several arrests.
The police had tried to shield the area of the only Tesla factory in Europe and several motorway exits were closed. As part of the demonstrations to the site, there was also a sit-in on a country road near the factory.
There was another disruption in connection with the protests at Neuhardenberg airfield. According to the police, masked people appeared there and set off pyrotechnics. There is currently another sit-in there.
Since Wednesday, Tesla opponents have called for days of action against the car manufacturer in Grünheide, Brandenburg. The background is the planned expansion of the only Tesla factory in Europe there. Since the end of February, climate activists have been protesting nearby in a camp with tree houses against the planned expansion of the site and the clearing of forest. The police want to ensure that the tree houses are dismantled. A legal dispute is currently ongoing.
The police fear another attack, like last March when the power supply was attacked. A good two months ago, production at the Tesla factory came to a standstill after an arson attack on a high-voltage pylon.
The “Vulkan Group” responsible at the time announced in advance that it was looking forward to “an exciting week of action” in which there would be “many opportunities to attack companies like Tesla”.
According to “Bild”, around 1,200 demonstrators have registered. The Tesla opponents are said to have already carried out sit-ins and taken action against police lines. Their goal is to advance to the Tesla factory on Friday and Saturday.
