A three-year-old girl was freed by the police from a locked car in Düsseldorf’s old town on Sunday night.
Around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to a police report, passers-by in the old town noticed how the crying girl in a parked vehicle desperately drew attention to herself by hitting the raised window panes.
The summoned police did not hesitate, smashed a window of the car and took the girl out into the fresh air. After the hottest day so far in Germany on Saturday, the temperatures on Sunday night were still in the tropical range of 20 degrees Celsius and more.
Only half an hour after the girl was freed, the 23-year-old mother appeared with a companion. They were taken to the station. A breath alcohol test on the mother showed a value of almost two per thousand, the test of the companion and driver of the car was negative. The police prepare a report to the youth welfare office. The three-year-old girl was reportedly unharmed.
