the Scientists of the Crimean Federal University (KFU) launched an experiment with the aim of growing industrial harvests in the steppe zone of the Peninsula. Bookmark the experienced garden will begin next fall. About it reports a press-service of KFU.
the Olive is a subtropical culture, and in our country the tree grows only on the southern Crimean coast. Scientists of the Crimean University has set the ambitious goal of the commercial harvest of this oilseed in the steppe part of the region. Because the climatic conditions of the South coast and the steppes of the Crimea is very close with the exception of several natural factors.
– In the steppe Crimea the temperature, adversely affecting the development of generative buds of a tree are rare, but that small percentage is sufficient for a complete loss of the crop. All other climatic conditions are suitable for its cultivation, – said Vice-rector for external relations of the Crimean Federal University Mikhail Sergeev. We decided to conduct a scientific experiment to protect the plants from low temperatures by planting in greenhouses, to check whether the grove to harvest in such conditions.
At the farm of the University on the area of 0,75 hectares is installation of a greenhouse for the garden next. It is designed for 1000 seedlings. Until the autumn in the experimental area will prepare the ground, assemble the irrigation system to spray a fine Golden Spray, the entire structure will be covered with film. Donors for the new garden will be the olives, which experts KFU successfully grown in your South coast area.
– We cut cuttings from the most productive trees in our grove in foros and took a biomaterial. I want to try to obtain planting material in two ways: by rooting cuttings in a greenhouse with a fogging system, as well as in vitro in our biotech complex, – shared his plans for Mikhail Sergeev. – This algorithm for obtaining planting material of olive in vitro in the public domain. Probably, we will have a long search environment, which will act as a catalyst for cell reproduction. It is important to obtain planting material in any manner to begin an experiment this year.
the Ministry of agriculture of the Crimea have already expressed interest in the project of scientists of Kazan Federal University. Practices of the agricultural sector will monitor the development of the experiment. Meanwhile, in a leading University of the Republic, in addition to the olive groves of their own planting material intend to plant in the greenhouse, seedlings of olives, imported from Jordan. Together with the University of Sirius Crimean scientists will work on improving the tolerance of crops to low temperatures with the help of genetic editing.
