The Austin Police Department has identified the victim of the fatal train crash that occurred in south Austin last week. The man who tragically lost his life in the crash was 55-year-old Scott A. Sticksel, as reported in a news release by the agency on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Friday, August 9th, when APD officers were called to the 1700 block of Matthews Lane near Menchaca Road around 4:20 p.m. The collision involved a train and an SUV, with Sticksel being the driver of the SUV. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
This fatal crash marks the 52nd one in Austin for the year 2024, according to the police. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is still ongoing as of Tuesday.
