Researchers from the US have identified which cells in the lungs, sinuses and intestines are particularly vulnerable to coronavirus. Reported by the Daily Mail, citing the work of the team of scientists from Boston children’s hospital.
So, scientists believe that certain cells in the nasal sinuses, which are responsible for production of mucus, have two essential protein COVID-19 to penetrate into the cell.
The researchers also proved that the coronavirus has gained new features and now can affect the interferon produced by the body to combat viral infections.
These findings will help guide the development of a vaccine against coronavirus in the right direction or to determine which of the existing tools can be adapted for its treatment.
American immunologist Jose Arvadas-montanes for the away team said that Boston had all the prerequisites for such studies, as they have in the clinic already had a suitable base of information, which was originally intended for completely different purposes.
