Sadio Mané comes to FC Bayern – this is the most spectacular transfer in the Bundesliga this summer so far. But what distinguishes the Liverpool winger? One of his first trainers looks back and raves.
Perfection and work ethic: Olivier Perrin, head of the academy at FC Metz, remembers Sadio Mané’s (30) first professional appearance on “Sport1”. He praises the Senegalese as a “perfectionist” who always wants to improve and has a high work ethic.
Short, compact, clear
Mané plays with a groin injury: At first, however, Mané couldn’t move at all and was “always a step too late in training and kept making technical mistakes,” says Perrin. He went to investigate the causes and found out that the then young striker was playing with groin problems.
Fear of “deportation”: “In retrospect, we found out that he was hiding an injury because he was afraid that he would be sent back to Senegal,” Perrin said of Mané’s start-up problems. After a groin operation, the striker took off and made the leap from the youth academy to the professionals.
