The team buses of the federal riot police were all in front of a hotel in the early Wednesday morning, in which the emergency services for the G7 summit were housed, as a spokesman for the Munich police said to the German Press Agency. Investigators suspected arson.
Shortly after becoming known, the police searched for possible perpetrators with a helicopter, among other things, but were initially unsuccessful, as the spokesman said. Investigators examined the completely burned-out police van. The officials estimated the damage in the six-digit range. Nobody got hurt.
The G7 summit is scheduled for June 26-28 at Schloss Elmau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The heads of state and government of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Canada will meet under the leadership of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
According to a media report, after the cutback in gas supplies to Germany, the federal government wants to announce the second stage of the gas emergency plan.
