Ozone accumulates primarily in the lower layers of the air and has its highest concentrations especially in the afternoon hours when the sun is at its highest point.
Because hardly any thunderstorms are expected, there will be little wind in the coming days. This so-called low-exchange weather situation drives up the ozone content. Above 180 µg/m3, people with sensitive health should avoid strenuous outdoor activities. From 240 µg/m3 there is even an alarm. Above this value, all people should avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
The ozone map web app tells you in which areas increased ozone levels are to be expected. The Windy web app also knows how hot it will be over Germany in the next few days. You can see detailed wind, temperature and weather forecasts on a satellite map.

According to the Federal Environment Agency of North Rhine-Westphalia, the colorless and toxic gas ozone is one of the most important trace gases in the atmosphere. According to this, ozone occurring near the ground is formed during intensive solar radiation by chemical processes from precursor pollutants – mainly nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds. About half of the nitrogen oxides come from the traffic sector, the rest mainly from heating systems. About half of the volatile organic substances are released when solvents are used.
