A protected cycle lane has been submitted at Tempelhofer Damm in Berlin. The Berlin Senator for the Environment came to the opening by car – and only sat down for the photographers on a bicycle.
More and more cities are setting up so-called “protected cycle lanes”. Cyclists ride there mostly on the street, in former parking lots and separated from car traffic by bollards. So also in Berlin.
On Friday afternoon, the Berlin Senator for the Environment, Bettina Jarrasch (Greens), opened such a strip between Alt-Tempelhof and Ullsteinstrasse. But the Greens politician came by car herself, as reported by “Bild”. A driver brought Jarasch to the appointment in her Tesla.
She then got on an employee’s bicycle to ride a few meters on the new cycle path together with Transport Councilor Saskia Ellenbeck. Jarasch then got back into her Tesla and drove away.
Jarasch justified herself in “Bild”: “If I made all appointments by bike, I could only attend half of them.”
