ATHENS, 29 Sep – RIA Novosti. World-famous Greek composer, a member of the Greek resistance movement during the Second world war, Mikis Theodorakis was awarded the Russian medal for the 75th anniversary of the Victory.

Theodorakis, who will soon turn 95 years old, during the Second world war, he participated in the resistance movement, was captured by Nazis and tortured. During the Civil war in Greece he was in a concentration camp on the island of Makronissos, where he also tortured.
Mikis Theodorakis is a laureate of the international Lenin prize “For strengthening peace among peoples”.
Theodorakis not only well-known politician, but also a world famous composer. He is the author of numerous symphonies, popular songs and dances. In particular, Theodorakis wrote the music to dance Sirtaki from “Zorba the Greek”, which became one of the symbols of Greece.
