Finance Minister Christian Linder (FDP) wants to put the red pencil on positions in ministries and authorities from 2023.
In order to achieve the goal of complying with the debt brake, all departments are to save around 1.5 percent of the planned jobs. This emerges from documents relating to the draft budget for 2023, which the “Business Insider” reports on. It is not clear how many positions are involved. Estimated, however, it could be a three-digit number of positions. The only exceptions are the police, customs, technical relief organization, the Federal Office for Information Security and a few other authorities.
The bottom line, however, is that the federal government will continue to increase staff in 2023. Nevertheless, there will be 2,508 additional jobs in the coming year, which will increase the number of jobs in the federal administration to 297,228. Lindner’s note to his ministerial colleagues: If personnel expenses increase in 2023 as a result of collective bargaining with the unions, the departments will have to generate the additional expenses themselves through savings.
