FromSoftware’s Plan to Develop a JRPG Revealed
The president of FromSoftware, Hidetaka Miyazaki, is discussing the types of games he would like the studio to work on in the future, and traditional JRPG is among his top choices – even though soulslikes and battles between giant robots are his main trademarks.
The studio previously worked on a game of this genre in 2006, called Enchanted Arms, which had Ubisoft as the producer. It was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but Miyazaki points out that he would not want it to be a sequel as he does not feel comfortable working on franchises created by other directors – except for Armored Core.
“I believe that many of these games are interconnected with the directors who almost invented that style of game. I can’t imagine a scenario where I produce a King’s Field. The same can be said about Otogi and Enchanted Arms. I worked on Armored Core 4 and Armored Core: For Answer. This allowed me to insert my own interpretation of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon and develop it,” said Hidetaka Miyazaki.
A turn-based JRPG produced by FromSoftware would be interesting to see, but at the moment, the studio’s focus is on the recently launched Elden Ring expansion – Shadow of the Erdtree. The content is already available on all platforms that the base game was released on and will provide many hours for fans to explore its map.
Furthermore, the DLC also features a hundred new weapons and several bosses scattered throughout the map. So, if you thought your journey through the Lands Between had ended, it’s time to saddle up again on Torrente to face the new features that the studio has brought to the experience.
The Next Project of FromSoftware
FromSoftware has been very busy in recent years, releasing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in 2019, Elden Ring in 2022, and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon in 2023. With the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree arriving in 2024, it may take a while before we see a JRPG or any other title that the developer decides to produce.
So far, neither the studio nor its head – Hidetaka Miyazaki – have signaled what the next title will be and if there is any forecast for its release. All we can do is wait.
In conclusion, the future of FromSoftware holds exciting possibilities, especially with the potential development of a JRPG in the works. Fans can look forward to new gaming experiences from this renowned studio, known for pushing boundaries and creating immersive worlds. Stay tuned for updates on their upcoming projects and be prepared to embark on new adventures in the gaming realm.
