On a Singapore Airlines flight, violent turbulence catapulted Britain’s Kerry Jordan against the luggage rack. Her spinal cord was so badly injured that she has been paralyzed ever since.
On May 20, a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 encountered severe turbulence on its way from London to Singapore. As the Daily Mail reports, British dancer Kerry Jordan suffered a serious spinal cord injury.
Her husband, Keith Davis, said his wife was paralyzed from the waist down after emergency surgery. She was catapulted out of her seat and thrown against the luggage rack. His wife was “not in good shape,” Davis said.
Kerry Jordan, a dance teacher from Appledore in Devon, was returning to Adelaide, Australia, with her husband from a holiday in the UK.
The couple was in the middle of the cabin when the plane abruptly lost altitude and the dancer was thrown against the luggage rack. Keith later told ABC News Breakfast: “It happened in seconds without warning. Suddenly we fell into a large air hole and were pushed upwards to the ceiling in a free fall.”
Both were taken to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital in Bangkok. “She underwent emergency surgery immediately upon arrival and still has no feeling in her waist. This is quite a turning point in their lives,” Keith said from the hospital bed.
Before Kerry will be able to fly to Adelaide, she will likely have to remain in hospital for several weeks.

A 73-year-old died of a heart attack and a total of 53 passengers suffered injuries, some of them serious. The reason for the turbulence remains unclear.
Aviation safety expert Stefan Hinners explains what turbulence is all about. He advises sitting down and buckling up tightly if the plane shakes.
