Hobby tournament takes place despite trouble: Despite the fuss surrounding his business relationship with a right-wing extremist local politician, Martin Hinteregger allows the “Hinti-Cup” hobby tournament to take place in his home country of Carinthia. The Austrian national player explained this to ORF.
Hinteregger should have “researched”: The Eintracht Frankfurt defender admitted an omission. “The mistake I have to admit to myself is that I didn’t research who he is, what his background is. But who does that? I have to blame myself for that,” says the 29-year-old, who broke off the business relationship with Heinrich Sickl (FPÖ), which was revealed by a media report on Thursday. “Mr. Sickl was not in Carinthia for 30 years. For many of my generation, he is absolutely unfamiliar. After hearing the story, it’s very shocking.”
“Right corner? Bullshit!” The tournament will take place in Sirnitz from June 16th to 19th. Hinteregger emphasized that it was “absolute bullshit” to put him in the right-hand corner, but admitted after the negative headlines: “It will be a small scratch on my career leave behind.”
