For the fourth day in a row, militant environmental activists of the “last generation” in Berlin are causing growing resentment with a road blockade. Since 8 a.m. this time, dozens of activists have been blocking one of the most important intersections in Berlin. The mood among motorists is becoming increasingly irritated, the first serious incident occurred. Yesterday the Chancellery was the target of a paint attack with oil.
As on Monday and Tuesday, militant activists from the environmental group “Last Generation” occupied a main artery in Berlin during the morning rush hour. Around 70 participants have been blocking an important intersection in the middle of Berlin since 8 a.m. At the intersection at Frankfurter Tor, not far from Alexanderplatz, activists taped themselves to the asphalt and blocked traffic in all four directions. Shortly after the start of the blockade, a long backlog formed, which steadily grew.

After about two hours, the police diverted the traffic over a wide area, so that the traffic jam then largely dissolved. Then the activists were carefully removed from the road with commercial cooking oil so that no one was harmed and then taken to a prison assembly point.

A dangerous scene occurred on a section of the A100 in Berlin on Tuesday. The driver of a Mercedes, who stopped right in front of the activists, slowly drove into an activist after a while and pushed her for a few meters with his heavy car across the asphalt. Another activist, who filmed the scene and recorded both the car’s license plate number and the driver’s face, was slapped by the driver’s hand.
Berlin’s Senator for the Interior, Iris Spranger, has criticized the new autobahn blockades in the capital. “We have police forces throughout the city who can be on site very quickly,” said the SPD politician at a press conference.

The “Last Generation” has been increasingly calling for “civil disobedience” for several weeks. Spokeswoman Carla Hinrichs announced to FOCUS Online that the “interfering actions” in the capital would continue until Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) assured the activists that they would refrain from further oil drilling in the North Sea, which was currently being examined. Instead, they call for saving oil and introducing a speed limit on German autobahns and federal highways.
