Deadline magazine has revealed the first images from the film The Successor, directed by Xavier Legrand and starring actor Marc-André Grondin.
The revealed sequence shows a high-angle view of a haute couture fashion show and then goes backstage where Ellias Barnes (Marc-André Grondin) seems on the verge of having a seizure. Called to greet the public, he nevertheless rushes off to the applause, leaving the spectator worried to see him collapse…
The Successor recounts a moment in the life of Ellias Barnes, recently appointed head of a prestigious Parisian house, who begins to feel chest pains. Called back to Montreal for the funeral of a father he is not close to, he will learn that he may have inherited much worse than his father’s failing heart, says the official synopsis.
This film starring Marc-André Grondin is the second by Xavier Legrand, noted for Until the Guard, notably awarded at Venice in 2017. The French director was also nominated for the Oscar for best short film in 2013. The successor will have its world premiere on Sunday at the San Sebastian Festival in northern Spain.
