A father drowned in the Rhine on Thursday. The 49-year-old, his two children and another man fell from a groyne into the river. The father was pulled under the water by the current and drowned. The other man and the two children were able to save themselves.
A 49-year-old man fell into the Rhine and drowned. According to previous knowledge, a group of four, including two children, ran over a groyne towards the island of Ilmenau, the police said. A dam, usually erected at right angles from the bank to the middle of the river, is called a groyne.
Some distance from the shore all four fell into the river on Thursday afternoon. The two eleven and eight-year-old children and another man managed to save themselves. According to the police, the 49-year-old father was pulled under the water by the strong current and drowned. According to “Bild”, he should be the father of the two children. He was found dead on Thursday afternoon in Bingen-Gaulsheim (Mainz-Bingen district).
