The drugstore chain “dm” had to close several branches on Tuesday morning. The reason: the cash register systems in the shops have failed. Several German cities were affected.

The drugstore chain “dm” confirmed a corresponding report by the “Bild-Zeitung” on FOCUS Online’s request.

Christoph Werner, CEO of dm, said: “This morning there were problems with the cash registers in a number of dm stores due to a software error. Since the problem occurred during checkout processes in the stores that open as early as 7 a.m. and was identified immediately, our IT specialists were able to quickly find the cause and rectify the error, so that most of our checkouts are fully functional again.”

Branches were affected throughout Germany. For example in Freiburg. There was a sign in front of a branch: “Dear customers, due to a cash register failure and the fact that we cannot collect your purchases, we cannot open our branch at the moment! The specialist department is working flat out on a solution! We ask for your understanding.”

According to FOCUS online information, the cash registers in the affected branches could not connect to the Internet. For example also in the Sonnenstraße in Munich.
