In Austin, the capital of Texas, there is always something happening, even in the early hours of the morning when most people are still asleep. Have you ever wondered what goes on in the city when you’re not looking? A new podcast by KUT News called “24 Hours in Austin” aims to answer that question.
Over the past year, a team of 20 audio producers has been documenting various locations in Austin for 24 hours at a time. From the airport to a coffee shop to the 911 mental health dispatch center, they have been capturing the essence of the city throughout the day.
Matt Largey, the producer of the podcast, explained that despite being a big city, Austin can sometimes feel like it lacks a sense of community. The goal of the podcast is to talk to as many people as possible throughout the day, listen to their stories, and understand how the city changes over the course of a day.
The first episode of the podcast focuses on East Sixth Street, the nightlife capital of downtown Austin, during the South by Southwest Festival in March. Largey mentioned that many universal themes emerge as they speak to different people throughout the day. Whether you’re interested in empathizing with others or feeling connected to your fellow humans, this podcast is for you.
