The expensive shock is spreading throughout Germany. More and more companies are suffering from the rising gas and food prices. So does the baker Achim Dörzbach from Baden-Württemberg. He has to close down now.
The Dörzbach bakery in Bad Rappenau, Baden-Württemberg, is run by the fourth generation of the brothers Achim and Andreas. However, only until September 1st. Because then the bakery closes – of necessity. The “Bild am Sonntag” reports on the case.
The reason: the horrendous prices for gas and food. “The cost of gas has risen from 900 to 4,200 euros per month,” Achim Dörzbach told the newspaper. And the groceries that are irreplaceable for a bakery are also becoming more and more expensive. The price of flour has risen from 37 to 53 cents per kilo. Cream has risen from 2.55 to 4 euros. And the milk price has almost doubled, from 45 to 85 cents.
However, Dörzbach does not want to save on the ingredients. “The most important thing for me has always been that the customers like it. That’s why we never skimped on cream, although some things could be replaced with milk,” the master baker told the “Bild am Sonntag”.
Now he could raise the prices and pass the inflation on to his customers, but Dörzbach has too many concerns here, too. In the spring he increased his prices by 10 percent, now a further 10 percent surcharge is needed to cover the costs.
His brother is now leaving the business for personal reasons, for Achim Dörzbach the business can no longer be managed alone. “I just can’t find a baker who will help me,” he says. Now he wants to find more time for his family, he is raising his 15-year-old daughter alone.
