Former Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer raises serious allegations against the Iranian government in “Stern”. He was depressed by how the regime “slaughters its own youth,” said Fischer.
“The way people take to the streets is incredibly courageous, important and right,” said Joschka Fischer to “stern”. When asked if the protests would bring about a turnaround, the former foreign minister replied: “I hope so, because the people deserve it. Fischer defended the longstanding efforts to reach a nuclear deal with Iran, which he had helped initiate while he was foreign minister. “Nuclear weapons in Iranian hands would mean war in the region because I cannot imagine that Israel would accept this existential threat,” said the Green politician.
“It was therefore right to try to at least slow down the mullahs’ grab for the bomb in a controlled manner. But what we are seeing now is a popular uprising, not only in Tehran, but also on the periphery.”
