Fuel prices remain high in Germany. Those who live in the south-west are currently the cheapest to fill up. This is shown by a nationwide fuel price comparison by a specialist portal. This gas station chain is particularly expensive.
Although the prices for petrol and diesel are currently fluctuating, they generally remain at a high level. Regionally, however, they can differ by several cents. The “More-tanken” portal has now evaluated nationwide for the trade journal “Auto Motor und Sport” where Germany can fill up the tanks cheapest – and where diesel and petrol cost the most money
Accordingly, drivers have to pay the most for fuel at all petrol stations of the “Orlen” brand. The chain currently has almost 600 gas stations in Germany. On average, a liter of E5 cost €1.99 there in June.
The brands Esso, Aral, Westfalen and Shell are almost as expensive: At 1.98 euros, the E5 liter was only one cent cheaper there.
The cheapest petrol in June was the “ED” brand. Here the liter E5 cost “only” 1.91 euros. However, “ED” only operates around 100 gas stations, all of them in western and southwestern Germany.
Drivers also saved at Globus (1.93 euros) and Avanti (1.94) compared to the large chains.
In general, the fuel price in Germany is currently falling according to the ADAC. On a nationwide daily average, gas stations charged 1.843 euros for a liter of Super E10. That’s 2.1 cents less than a week ago. Diesel became cheaper by 3.8 cents to 1.989 euros per liter.
At the beginning of the Ukraine war, fuel prices had climbed to record levels. Diesel is now around 30 cents cheaper than when it peaked in early March, and Super E10 is around 35 cents cheaper. However, fuel remains more expensive than before the war.
The development of the oil price, which has fallen recently, is likely to have contributed to the current slight easing. It is usually considered the most important driver of price movements at gas stations. In the past few months, however, prices have decoupled to a certain extent.
Oil companies attributed the lower prices to the energy tax cut. The relief applicable from June to August is 35.2 cents per liter for petrol and 16.7 cents for diesel. The measure should apply until the end of August.
