The EU budget should be turned into a “program of revival of Europe” after the pandemic of coronavirus, said the foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas. His article was published in the newspaper Die Welt.
According to the politician, the General aim of the EU member States — that Europe emerged from the current crisis stronger, United and independent. He believes that the budget should reconsider for the next seven years: priorities for investment should do research, climate protection, technological sovereignty and strong health systems and social support.
Maas stressed that a joint economic policy is not only an act of solidarity between the countries of Europe, but a purely economic sense. He recalled that Germany invests heavily in the work of the unit, and noted that those who in time of crisis, undermining the value base of European society will not be able to count on help from the EU.
The diplomat also spoke about the global and not only European situation: he joined the proposal of the UN Secretary General, antónio Guterres, to set a global truce. Maas believes that in a pandemic is to strengthen the UN and the world health organization.
