Even before the start of the 2022/2023 Bundesliga season, the rulers are making a name for themselves again. Some new football rules have been in effect since July 1st. What changes.

As is the case every year with the deadline of July 1, FIFA is again modifying the football rules somewhat. The rule changes, which you can read in detail in the official FIFA rule book, will then apply in the Champions League, in the DFB Cup and in the Bundesliga season from the new 2022/2023 season.

The rule changes for this year are limited and mainly modify existing rules. The new handball rules introduced last season have largely proven themselves and remain anchored in the rule book.

In addition, the change originally introduced temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, whereby the number of possible substitutions per team was increased from three to five, was finally implemented in the 2022/23 edition of the Laws of the Game.

The ten-minute penalty, which allows the referee to refer players to the bench to cool down after an offense, is also returning in several state associations in amateur football.
