The Latvian SSR was the “donor money” in the Soviet Union. This was stated by the Minister of justice of the Republic of Latvia Janis Bordans.
According to him, during Soviet times, Riga was given to 48% of its budget, according to “Sputnik Latvia”.
"Despite the harsh past, it is also a testimony to the strength. We were donors of money in the USSR" — said the official.
Earlier NEWS.ru reported that the President of the Bank of Latvia mārtiņš Kazaks said about the need to write off bad debts of credit organizations in the country. In his opinion, the cancellation of such debt a decade ago would bring back many of the Latvians at home. In addition, it would improve the country’s credit rating.
