The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team is gearing up for the upcoming 2024-25 season under the guidance of head coach Rodney Terry. Despite some roster changes due to transfers and players graduating, Terry is optimistic about the team’s chemistry and potential for success.

Last season, the Longhorns made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament, finishing with a 21-13 record. To fill the gaps in the roster, Texas added six players from the transfer portal who have seamlessly integrated with the returning players. Coach Terry emphasized the importance of building organic chemistry within the team, and so far, the players have shown great camaraderie and support for each other.

Two experienced transfers, Julian Larry and Jordan Pope, are expected to take on the point guard responsibilities, bringing a wealth of college basketball experience to the team. Additionally, freshman Tre Johnson and newcomer Tramon Mark will play crucial roles in the backcourt alongside Malik Pressley, a local talent from San Marcos.

On the offensive end, Chendall Weaver is set to expand his role after a breakout season last year. With improved shooting skills, Weaver aims to keep opponents on their toes while maintaining his defensive intensity. In the frontcourt, new additions like Arthur Kaluma and Julian Larry will join returning players to bolster the team’s inside presence.

Sophomore Devon Pryor, who missed last summer due to injury, is expected to showcase his potential this season with increased strength and skill development. Coach Terry praised Pryor’s growth and sees a bright future ahead for the young player.

The Longhorns’ season will kick off on November 4th against Ohio State in Las Vegas before returning home for a series of games. A notable matchup awaits Texas in Brooklyn as they face Syracuse in the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center on November 21st. The team will also face off against familiar foes like Texas Tech and UConn in the upcoming season.

As the Longhorns prepare to make their debut in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) play in January, the team is focused on building upon last year’s success and establishing themselves as a formidable force in college basketball. With a mix of experienced veterans and promising newcomers, Texas is poised to elevate their game and make a statement in the upcoming season.
