After Sebastian Vettel’s criticism of the carbon brake dust after the Austrian Grand Prix, the world motorsport association Fia is now reacting and announcing investigations. The four-time world champion sees the health of the drivers at risk.
Fia reacts to Vettel: After Sebastian Vettel’s direct warning about the danger of carbon brake dust inhaled by racing drivers, the umbrella organization Fia now expresses itself, as “Motorsport-Magazin” reports. This is what this investigation announces. In addition, the Formula 1 sports commission should advise and possibly make changes to the design of the brake ventilation.
Short, compact, clear
New design failed? The design of the brake ventilation has already been changed for the current season in order to reduce the downforce loss when driving in a row. This is how the dust is currently discharged on the inside of the wheel, and thus almost directly past the driver’s face. In the past, this was done externally.
Problem easy to change: Vettel had given an interview after the race in Austria a few days ago with a black face. The four-time world champion emphasized: “Breathing carbon dust is not exactly healthy. I hope that the Fia will take a look at it very soon.” In addition, this problem is “easy to change”. The carbon brake dust is said to be responsible for the blackness.
