More than 10 American beta users of the global satellite system Starlink shared data on the speed of the network. According to the test from Ookla Speedtest, the download speed made 11-60 megabits per second, download – from 5 to 18 megabits per second. The delay time of the signal is made up 31-94 milliseconds, some users ping not exceed 20-21 milliseconds. This parameter is important to get SpaceX support from the Federal communications Commission of the USA on the Internet facilities in the rural areas.
In accordance with the requirements of the regulator, the ping should not exceed 100 milliseconds, while Elon Musk has promised that the delay will not exceed 20 milliseconds. SpaceX plans to connect Starlink at least five million subscribers in the United States. Currently orbiting the earth about 600 spacecraft system, and it is planned to accommodate 12 thousand such satellites, thereby improving the test parameters of the network.
Global Starlink satellite system implemented by the company SpaceX to provide population with high-speed broadband Internet access in places where it was unreliable, expensive or completely unavailable. Project development began in 2015, the test prototypes were launched in February 2018. In 2017, SpaceX submitted regulatory documents to run a total of almost 12,000 satellites in orbit by mid 2020-ies.
In may 2019, we launched the first group of 60 prototype satellites. SpaceX plans to provide commercial services of the Internet in the U.S. and Canada in 2020, and 2021 and around the world. The total investment for the project is estimated at $ 10 billion. Elon Musk also plans to sell the satellites used this system for research and scientific purposes.
