MOSCOW, 11мая — RIA Novosti. The former Governor of the Ryazan region, Senator Oleg Kovalev has died on 72-m to year of life, told RIA Novosti the head of the Federation Council Committee on rules Vyacheslav Timchenko.
“Oleg Ivanovich died that night from heart failure. He had a long battle with a serious disease,” he said.
Kovalev in 1991 was appointed head of administration of the Kashirsky district of the Moscow region, and five years later was elected head of the municipal formation “Kashirsky district”. From 2000 to 2002 he was Deputy Chairman of the Committee on local government of the State Council, since January 2002 — Chairman of the Committee on rules and organization of work of the lower chamber.
In December 2007, Kovalev was elected Deputy in the composition of the party “United Russia”. From March 2008 to February 2017 was Governor of the Ryazan region. After the early resignation he went to work in the Federation Council and became a representative of the government of the Ryazan region.
